Sahib Mammadov, head of Citizen’s Labor Rights Protection League arrived to Geneva for participation at the 11th session of the UN Committee on Protection of the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities held on March 31 – April 11, 2014. The first report of the government of Azerbaijan on implementation of the obligations under the “Convention on Protection of the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities” had been presented at the session. The Commettee will hear and discuss the report of the official delegation of Azerbaijan and make general comments on it. The recommendations to the government regarding implementation of the obligations under the Convention will be provide in the document. Citizen’s Labor Rights Protection League presented the report to the Committee.
In the eve of the hearings regarding Azerbaijan held on April 01, Sahib Mammadov, participated at the briefing organized for the Committee members and made a declaration. He provided information about the main problems of the persons with disabilities in Azerbaijan and emphasized that the obligations under the Conventions are not implemented. Together with the heads of other NGOs participating at the briefing he answered multiple questions of the Committee members.
On April 1-2, S. Mammadov will participate in the work of the sessionand hold a range of meetings on April 3.
CLRPL plans to follow up implementation of the recommendations that will addressed by the Committee to the government of Azerbaijan.
This activity is conducted within the activity on using the mechanisms of International advocacy provided for protection of the rights of the persons with disabilities in the Azerbaijan Rights Consortium (ARC) Project implemented with financial assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
